Have you ever sent an email and immediately wished you could take it back? Whether it’s a typo, an incorrect recipient, or missing information, sending an email too soon can be frustrating. Fortunately, Apple provides a built-in feature in the Mail app that allows you to unsend emails within a short time frame. This feature is available on iPhones running iOS 16 or later and Macs using macOS Ventura or newer.
The How to Unsend an Email on an iPhone or Mac feature helps users quickly recall messages before they reach the recipient. After hitting the send button, a small “Undo Send” option appears at the bottom of the Mail app for a few seconds. On an iPhone, the option lasts for about 10 seconds, while on a Mac, it appears in the lower-left corner of the Mail window. Clicking on "Undo Send" reopens the email in draft mode, allowing you to make changes or delete it entirely. However, if the time limit expires, the email is permanently sent, and you cannot recall it.
To customize the Undo Send Delay, go to Settings > Mail on your iPhone and adjust the available time limit. On a Mac, open the Mail app, navigate to Mail > Settings, and under the Composing tab, select the delay duration. Keep in mind that this feature works only within Apple's Mail app and may not function with third-party email services like Gmail or Outlook.
