The crowdfunding operation launched on the internet to help the kitten Sprotje, burned and abused in Kortrijk, has raised 14,000 dollars, officials said on Wednesday. This amount is much higher than the necessary care provided to the cat and the veterinarian has decided to donate 11,000 euros to 10 non-profit organizations that help animals.
Last week, Sprotje was taken to a vet with severe burns and bleeding. The kitten had been abused by its owner who had used it as a football and put it in an oven for fifteen minutes.
When the fundraising operation was launched, it quickly became apparent that there would be too much money to help the cat alone. Therefore, 11,000 dollars were donated to associations helping animals. "The rest of the money will be used for the legal proceedings against the perpetrator," commented Valérie Huvaere, from the veterinary office that treats the kitten.
