The average space that has been recommended by most professionals is about a minimum of 175 square feet for each employee.
Another important factor you should think about is the function of your office. If it is a private office where all work is done outside with clients, you don't need it to be overly spotless, but if clients will regularly visit and may wind up conducting business here, you will want visitors to at least feel comfortable. Your workplace should be well-kept and appealing to potential customers.
Individual and group projects are also important to take into account. If you have a number of projects underway that require a lot of team members to work, you'll want conference rooms or other gathering places where communication may occur rather than individual offices where each person is set up to work alone.
